2015 was a banner year for Australian small businesses, with the introduction of an immediate tax deduction for any new business assets costing up to $20,000. Announced in the May federal Budget, the scheme has quickly proved a hit with SMEs, with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting that almost 100,000 small businesses had made claims between July and December.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Federal Small Business Minister Kelly O'Dwyer encouraged more Australian SMEs to get in on the scheme in the coming year.
"The message I have for small businesses which are thinking of whether to make an investment in their business is that you have until July 30, 2017 to make a claim and there is no limit to the number of items that you can invest in so long as they are eligible assets," she said.
